A country such as Haiti is impacted in unique ways by Covid-19
and therefore demands a unique response.
As with every other country, the current coronavirus pandemic has also affected Haiti in every aspect. But given existing challenges faced by the country, the effects of the pandemic are even more significant. For example, due to political unrest at the beginning of the academic year, most students had to stay home for at least 2 months during a period that citizens described as “Peyi Lock“. Now with the coronavirus pandemic, schools were closed in Mid-March for the remaining of the school year. This means Haitian students have had less than 12 weeks of classes this academic year putting them at a serious disadvantage compared to the rest of the world. At EMO-Haiti we see these challenges as opportunities to help lay a better foundation for the future generations.
The team met and created a plan to address the current situation while keeping our values and philosophy of making lasting changes in mind. Below are some of the decisions we made based on our coronavirus response plan.
